change is essential.

“I always say: to be well dressed you must be well naked.” -Oscar De La Renta

Surprise, I cut off my hair! For weeks I’ve been contemplating cutting off the majority of my hair. Fashion is all about constantly changing yourself and stepping away from comfort zones. There are so many reasons I wanted to cut it all off. The first reason being I don’t like being labeled. Having my long hair started becoming a signature statement which I really have tried my entire fashion career to stay away from. I didn’t want to be known for ONE thing. I’m too diverse and indescribable. I’m bold with fashion, why not with my hair? There are so many good qualities and features about me and I didn’t want my hair to be the most recognized. My eyebrows being a statement, now that’s what I’m okay with being known for. Although I love Kim Kardashian, I was being compared to her, possibly because my curves and hair. Love her, but don’t like being compared to anyone in general. I also feel like my hair was making me more of a sex symbol than anything. I’d rather be respected in fashion than known as a sex symbol. Both would be nice though. Before Spring 2013 fashion week I found this vintage teal dress. I mentioned that I took a few dresses to the seamstress for alterations. Well this was the dress they completely butchered. I asked them to make it a high low dress, gradually going from short to long. Well, he clearly didn’t understand me and made it a blunt butler cut. I ended up not wearing it to fashion week and saved it for a post. Well I hope you guys like my new hair because I love it, if not, it’s too late. haha! Everyone have a safe Halloween.

  1. Well I respect you whether your hair’s short or long! Great bob. I’m waiting till after winter to chop mine off. My neck freezes in cold weather, lol.

Nice lip color too! I recently started wearing darker lip shades and I’m loving it.

  2. Well I respect you whether your hair’s long or short! Great bob. Going to cut mine again next year. My neck gets cold in these NYC winters so I’m leaving it long for now, lol.

Love that lip color too. I recently started getting into darker shades. Simple way to make your overall look more fierce.

  3. I remember you putting up a status, i’m glad you did it, it looks really nice on you. Fabulous actually, you could have even pulled off a shorter cut you have the face for it for sure. can’t wait to see what fun styles you do with it.

    I always vote for a shorter cut on a girl :D .

I’m actually doing the opposite now: I was known for shorter hair and I’m growing it out. I’ll be back to shorter styles because I feel they’re more me, but for now it feels nice to experiment (and I can’t wait to try all the styles possible only with longer hair).

As Jeimy said: love the smile.

you can wear short hair, you look really nice with this cut!

but, oh my, what did they do to your dress? whatever gave them the idea, this could be what you meant… such a pitty. Next time, draw them a picture ;)

YES!!!!!!!!!!! A million times over, yes. I am currently in the process of growing my hair out long after having it above my shoulders for most of the last decade, something I have tried to do several times but usually don’t get very far with because I’m scissor-happy. I chop my hair off all the time. This post reminds me of a time when my hair was getting a little longer, starting to pass my shoulders, and I was struggling with being a curvy, sexy woman–I have the type of body that just says “sex sex sex” to men especially because I have large breasts and large hips and butt and a small waist, and I get a lot of unwanted attention. While I ALWAYS love my body and who I am, I don’t always love the connotations of being so curvy, and I hate being stuck in a box. So one day I went home, took a pair of scissors, and gave myself a pixie cut in my bathroom mirror because that was my way of taking the power back and saying, I’m not just feminine and pretty and curvy. It was kinda a “fuck you” to society. Anyway, your hair cut is very old-school classic, like 50′s/60′s bombshell, Elizabeth Taylor-style, and it looks amaaaazing on you, and I absolutely love that you did this. Also I want you to know that I worship your blog and just eat up your confidence, and sometimes I wear ballsier shit in public because you did it first. Smooches!!

Love the big change. It’s such crap when people associate hair with sexuality. I know the dress is not the way you wanted but I like the hem. And you could always cut the back off.

Your description was a little hard to read. Once I found your blog I fell in love with it and I’m not even plus size but this made me uneasy. It’s not bad to love yourself and its not bad to want change because we shouldn’t want to stay the same, we’d be boring, but we should always express ourselves with a little humility. It really speaks to someone’s character when they can do that.
